Using HoloLens and Mixed Reality to Enhance Surgery

This next video shows how surgeons are using HoloLens and mixed reality to overlay patient scans. This allows the surgeon to view a tumor as well as areas to avoid.

In the case of a Parkinson’s patient during DBS surgery would allow better insite into placement of device.

HoloLens And Mixed Reality In Forensics

Microsoft HoloLens has been in the news since 2016 and HoloLens 2 since 2019. Now we have Magic Leap 2, and Meta’s Oculus Quest. The Metaverse, AR/VR/MR and everything XR.

Most have read or experienced the many use cases for business, entertainment, education, and military; not to mention working remotely (me) and the medical field.

I think a couple of important use cases for use of the HoloLens in the near future will be both criminal and cyber forensics; in the lab as well as in the field.

Now let’s talk HoloLens and Gaming

Everyone thought the Wii/Wii U were great, then X Box and Kinect – now comes HoloLens with Robo Raid, Fragments and Young Conker.

With my HoloLens 1st Edition, I can watch a movie in my FOV that appears to be on my wall and a television of 72″. I can have multiple apps open at once all over my room. My room is my workspace. My calendar appears to hang from the wall on my left, while I have my Google docs floating in front of me and my messaging app floating just to the left of my browser.

Ah, I digress. – Enjoy these YouTube videos of HoloLens entertainment;

Robo Raid;

Fragments;

Young Conker;

HoloLens, Mixed Reality and Human Factors

Most people know I came from a Human Factors background. The next step for HoloLens 2 and Mixed Reality will be Human Factors and Human Systems. Think about this; testing an entire watchstation of twelve display consoles in combat. All twelve watchstanders wearing HoloLens 2 that has sophisticated eye tracking capabilities and can video the entire scenario while recording system data, including tracking where watchstander is looking, to the cloud. The test coordinator, also wearing an HoloLens 2 says one word – ‘begin’ and all HoloLens 2 devices kick off at the same time. When coordinator says ‘stop’ they all stop and finish recording data to the cloud.

This data could then be fed from the cloud into another HoloLens app for Manpower Modeling and Simulation analysis of real data.

Ergonomics and Safety specialists could use it for equipment and space analysis.

This is just a start.

HoloLens Transforming Higher Education

There are many higher education institutions and primary schools beginning to use Microsoft HoloLens to foster learning. But none more evident than Case Western Reserve.

The Day My Life Changed

September 15, 2017 is the day I received the diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease. I have been symptomatic though since at least 2008. My life has been a lot different since then. Never been much of a blogger, but then again time for a change of pace.

This blog is going to serve several purposes for me; document my journey living with Parkinson’s, my journey developing and living with Jarvis my HoloLens 1 from Microsoft and I may just add a tad bit of cathartic humor.
